Rules and Restrictions
THIS IS A USA DANCE SANCTIONED COMPETITION
We are using the rules from the USA Dance Rulebook. You are only allowed to dance in two consecutive levels.
Mixed Proficiency Events are Sanctioned Events. Costume Rules will be strictly enforced!
"No responsibility for loss or theft of articles left in changing rooms, ballrooms, hotel rooms, or other event facilities can be accepted by USA Dance. Nor can USA Dance be held liable for injury sustained by persons attending the event; it being hereby stated that persons attending the event do so at their own risk. All persons attending this event, whether as spectators, Athletes, officials, or guests of the organizer, shall be bound by the rules of USA Dance for those portions of the event sanctioned by the DanceSport Council. All Athletes may be subject to drug testing by the IDSF or USA Dance."
Please be familiar with the USA DanceSport Rulebook. Especially the USA Dance Dress Code which was has been changed since last year's comp.
All competitors must be USA Dance members. Please bring your USA Dance membership card on the day of the competition. If you are not yet a member or need to renew, please register online USA Dance Membership.
Rules specific to the Triangle Open:
- To qualify for the student competitor fee, you must be A) currently enrolled in a college or university pursuing a degree or graduated in 2008, and B) under the age of 35.
- Reminder, same-sex partnerships are not permitted.
Highlights from the USA DanceSport Rulebook:
- Costumes are not permitted in Adult syllabus events. (see Dress Code - section 3.10)
- Partnerships can dance in more than one level (see Competitive Classifications - section 4.5.4.6)
- Recent change that has not been put into rulebook yet - "3.8.1. A Mixed Proficiency couple consists of a DanceSport Athlete and a partner." In the past, the unjudged partner had to be of PreChamp proficiency; this is no longer the case. The unjudged partner may be of any proficiency higher than the judged partner.
Competitive Courtesy:
- While it is not a rule, we ask that dancers with more than two years experience dance in Silver or higher categories.
- While it is not a rule, we ask that dancers with more than 6 months experience dance in Bronze or higher categories.
